Our First Brainstorm
The first week was all about story. The first afternoon we learned about our teammates and each other’s interests and strengths, and we started pitching each other concrete ideas the following day. From the ideas, we noticed an emerging theme: we seemed to gravitate towards dark ideas featuring morally ambiguous decision-making. Our experience began to emerge from a series of ideas about facing reality: either waking someone up from a coma after seeing what was inside their head or working to convince a boyfriend in denial that his girlfriend has passed away. Both stories went away, but the Guest’s emotional journey stayed—we wanted a choice that would leave them feeling uncomfortable and guilty or sad but fulfilled.
